Devastating news strikes the hockey community as four-time Stanley Cup Champion has sadly passed away.

The Detroit Red Wings released the devastating announcement on social media of Friday, that former Stanley Cup Champion Marty Pavelich has passed away at 96-years old due to an illness.

"The Detroit Red Wings are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of Martin Nicholas (Marty) Pavelich, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 96 after a brief battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis." The Red Wings said.

Pavelich, joined the Detroit Red Wings in 1947 and spent ten seasons with them before retiring following the 1956-57 campaign.

In 634 career games with the Detroit Red Wings, Pavelich had 252 points (93 goals, 159 assists) and 454 penalty minutes. He went on to add 28 points in 91 playoff games, helping Detroit win the Stanley Cup in 1950, 1952, 1954 and 1955.
