Hurricanes Frederik Andersen a Bill Masterson trophy finalist

It's been an turbulent year for Hurricanes starting goaltender Frederik Andersen after he missed several months of the NHL season after he was battling blood clots. He, along with Coyotes goalie Connor Ingram and Flames defenseman Oliver Kylington were named the bill Masterson trophy finalists today.

Andersen, had been out of the league since November 6 2023 after it was announced that he had a blood clotting issue while he was being tested medically. After several tense months Anna very uncertain future in the NHL as several players in the past who have had this issue were forced to retire, Andersen battled back and began the second-half of his season on March 7th 2024.

Ever since his return he has been outstanding in the closing weeks of the season and into the playoffs as his hurricanes dispensed the New York Islanders in five games. During that series, he made some incredible saves that snuffed out any hope that the Islanders would win.

Some of his teammates have reached out and gave their heartfelt thoughts on how he deserves this award including Hurricanes star Sebastian Aho.

During his shortened season, he had only played sixteen games with a record of 13-2-0 with a goals against at 1.84 and a save percentage of .932 with three shutouts.
