Igor Shesterkin could be one of the greatest goalies to put on a New York Rangers uniform. He won three games this week, including a back-to-back shutout.
The New York Rangers are lucky to have someone like Igor Shesterkin on the team. He proved his worth again this week, putting the Rangers on his back.
He delivered three wins backstopping the Rangers, and earned the NHL's "Player of the Week".
The astonishing statistic in all of this was his GAA which was .32 GAA, and two back-to-back shutouts against the Columbus Blue Jackets and Ottawa Senators.
Over the last seven games, he's gone 6-0-1 with a .948 save percentage and a 1.39 mark. He out-goaled Philly's netminder Samuel Ersson last night by a ton and even earned Torts' praise.
He guarded the crease with diligence, making 80 saves in total, on 81 shots on goal which is astounding in itself.
Another All-Star performance for Shesterkin this season.
With the New York Rangers, and Igor Shesterkin running hot, we can easily see Shesterkin sneak his way into the Vezina Trophy discussion this year.
His record of 17 wins, 3 shutouts, 2.72 GAA, and and a .914 save percentage this season put him with the best of this best including Connor Hellebuyck.
The only difference between the two is that Shesterkin and his squad still have to fight for a playoff spot in the East.
With the Rangers' latest ten-game point streak, it could be easy to do so if they can catch the Columbus Blue Jackets whom they already shut out once this season.
Shesterkin is in the final year of his current deal, and next season will be paid $11.5 million AAV.
